Good to Know Ro

Even when she was a little girl
She loved to help her mom with her sisters
That was the start of a… beautiful life

She learned a lot from dad at the family store
Was Miss Congeniality and more
Had those unbelievable clear blue eyes

It was good to know Ro, it was great to be near her…
Positive outlook and generous heart
And if you knew Ro, oh it was so clear
Your life was better, better by far.

I can still hear that great laugh she had
An Awesome sister, that was rarely sad
She dwelled on the positive, a joy to be around

She didn’t care if you were rich or poor
A real people person to the core
With a sense of community in her heart

It was good to know Ro, it was great to be near her…
Positive outlook and generous heart
And if you knew Ro, oh it was so clear
Your life was better, better by far.

She was such a caring mom and wife
She lived for us and filled our life
With love and security, she guides us still

With those plastic swords we had a blast
But It’s her humanity that will last
If you didn’t like her something was wrong with you

It was good to know Ro, it was great to be near her…
Positive outlook and generous heart
And if you knew Ro, oh it was so clear
Your life was better, better by far.

Songification Backstory: This was a Tribute song for the Family of Rodessa "Ro" Marceaux.

Ro passed away at the young age of 51.

This entailed getting information to write the song from Ro's parents, siblings and her children. So I was dealing with three generations of her family. The great thing was everyone had the same feeling about Ro. That she was a great lady and it was good to know Ro, if you were lucky enough to. It didn't seem to matter who I was talking to, they were consistant in their portrayal of her. Someone that was willing to give the shirt off of her back to help you out. One of her sons played guitar, so he wanted to know the musical chords so he could play along with the song. That made his experience even deeper. The family wanted something upbeat and celebratory for the music. Overall, it turned out to be a very healing process for the family. And they all have a chance to celebrate the goodness of Ro every time they hear the song. As the Songifier, their reaction to the song affected me deeply. It was good to be a part of helping a family get some closure.
