Mister D
Mother Mildred gave him his discipline
In the shipyard his daddy showed him how it’s done.
You couldn’t put him down just because he was Hoboken poor.
He was the First from Hasbrook Heights to graduate West Point for sure.
You know he took the character he earned
and went about learning all there is to learn
He went from 3rd shift in the mills to CEO in a blink of an eye
Who do you turn to when your company’s in trouble
Who do you send a lifeline to
Who do you want to save your assets…. It’s Mister D
It wasn’t always easy to do what he had to do
But if you wanna be liked then you should get a dog or two
The first thing he’d always do, is throw out all the corporate toys
And he didn’t need any consultants to help him make that choice
He’d take his big ole chainsaw and cut out all the fat that was there
And leave a lean mean profit machine for all to share
Who do you turn to when your company’s in trouble
Who do you send a lifeline to
Who do you want to save your assets
It’s Mister D “If it is to be it is up to me”
That’s what he says to you and me If it is to be it is up to me and…Mister D
A big thank you to Andrew Kemetz, tuff ole Knobby, the Mr. Myers
Sir Roger Bannister and Sir “Jimmy” Goldsmith and most of all Judy
Who do you turn to when your company’s in trouble
Who do you send a lifeline to
Who do you want to save your assets..It’s Mister D
“If it is to be it is up to me” that’s what he says to you and me
If it is to be it is up to…Mister D

Songnificance: Birthday Song for Mister D (Al Dunlap) from Anne Marie and Sean
Songimonial:
“I have received many gifts in my life, but none more enjoyable than the song you wrote for me and sang. It is just great! All of my friends enjoy it as much as I do. It is a gift that is truly unique and personal.”
Al Dunlap
CEO/Author/Zillionaire
Songification Backstory: I was asked to write this song as a birthday gift for Al Dunlap. I used as the source for the lyric, Al’s Audio Book “ Mean Business.” It’s the first time I’ve written a song based on an audio book. It was fun getting to be sort of an historian. The lyric chronicles the rise of Al up the corporate ladder. I was impressed with the mantra that Al used along the way. The phrase “If it is to be, it is up to me.” Ten two letter words that say an awful lot about taking personal responsibility and ownership for one’s life. Hearing Al’s voice on the audio tape lead me down the path to a country feel. Since he came from a very humble background, I thought this was appropriate. As you can tell from his Songimonial, he loved it!
